surviving items on view in the exhibition reflect his refined taste and aristocratic
values and provide a fascinating insight into the social values of the Federal
period.
At
the conclusion of the tour in the mansion basement, visitors see a special exhibition
featuring some of the original purchases made by States Morris Dyckman while
he served the quartermasters in London. Planning to build a new mansion upon
his return in late 1803 after a second extended stay in London, States purchased
many expensive and beautiful possessions and shipped them to New York.
